Seeking God In a Star Word in 2019

Friends,

This Sunday as we studied the Wisemen’s journey to Jesus, we talked about the way they were guided to His presence by a star. This led us to consider the things in our lives that guide us to Jesus. Maybe it is a conversation, studying the Bible, prayer, or even just observing the world. When we are open, many different things can lead us to see and experience Jesus’s presence all around us.

As we talked about this, everyone was given a small wooden star with a word written on it. Most everyone received a unique word (there were a couple repeats!). These “Star Words” are words that we will use throughout 2019 to help guide us to Jesus.

My word is “Encouragement.” As I have thought about this word, I have prayed for Jesus to reveal himself to me through it. I have tried to be aware of moments this word appears in my life so I can see how God is using it to draw me closer to Jesus.

I also spent some time looking for scriptures that use the word Encouragement so I could use those in my devotional life. I have chosen to use Romans 15:5-6 as a centering scripture for 2019: “May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” There is certainly a lot to pray and apply from those two verses!

So, friends, what is your Star Word? How is it leading to you to Jesus this year? I’d love to hear from you. Let’s go to lunch or grab coffee to chat.

And, if you’d like to a do a word study on your Star Word, here’s how I did mine:

  • Go to biblegateway.com. This is an excellent resource to look up scripture from many different translations of the Bible. I chose the New Revised Standard Version from the Bible drop down. It’s my favorite translation.
  • Type your word in the search box and click the Search button.
  • As you read the different scripture passages that contain your Star Word, you can also click “In Context” or “Full Chapter” to find out what the context is for that particular verse.

Happy New Year and may your Star Word guide you to the transformative love of Jesus Christ in 2019!

Beth
